The YMCA provides programs for teens that help shape values and encourage life-long community service. Valuable leadership skills are taught through programs that promote responsibility.

The YMCA can also be a great place for teens to find employment. We offer certification courses in lifeguarding and babysitting, and employ teens in valuable wellness, aquatic and member service positions throughout our branches.

YMCAs give teens a safe place to call their own, a chance to connect with adults who look at them as their peers, and an opportunity to get involved in programs that help them grow as individuals.

Financial assistance for programs and a sliding scale fee is offered for membership.  Please contact Jan Kenney for program assistance or Nita Starr for membership assistance at 804-556-9887.

LEADERS CLUB
The YMCA Leaders Club provides teens in 7th Grade through 12th Grade with knowledge, training, communication skills, and valuable team-building experiences through volunteering in YMCA programs. The Leaders Club program will train teens to better serve their community and YMCA as they encourage each other to make a positive impact for present and future generations.

The Leaders will have an opportunity to be trained to teach children and develop skills in areas such as aquatics, youth sports, childcare, fitness development, after-school programs and membership.

The Leaders Club meets once a week beginning in September on Tuesday night's from 6:30-8:00pm at the Goochland Family YMCA. The Lewis & Clark Corps of Discovery is a yearlong program consisting of four sessions designed for teens ages 13–18. Corp members can participate for one year, but are encouraged to follow the program through their teen years to maximize this life changing experience. In this course, campers will learn first aid, CPR, and AED training, team building, wilderness survival skills, backpacking, and kayaking along with important life lessons based upon our country’s historical leadership, spiritual growth, and goal setting.
From backpacks to tents to kayaks and everything in between, our campers are provided with the quality supplies, counseling, and instruction needed to make this program a life changing experience.
